What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. While traditional SEO optimizes for search result links, GEO optimizes your content so that AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Perplexity, etc.) cite and recommend your products when answering shopper questions.

How does the GEO audit work?

CiteShop scans your product catalog and evaluates each product against 8 rules including title length/descriptiveness, content depth, SEO field quality, brand signals, and structured content patterns. Each resource receives a score out of 100 with specific actionable issues.

Which AI models do you use?

  • Starter plan ($9/mo): Uses DeepSeek — fast and cost-effective AI model.
  • Business & Enterprise plans: Uses Google Gemini — enhanced model with superior reasoning capabilities for complex product descriptions.

Will this change my product data without my approval?

Never! All AI-generated content is displayed as a preview first. You must explicitly click "Apply to Shopify" to save any changes. You can also edit the AI output before applying.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime from the Plans page or Shopify billing settings. After cancellation:

  • You keep full access until the end of your paid period.
  • Audit features remain available on the Free plan (up to 3 products).
  • AI optimization features require an active paid plan.

How are AI credits calculated?

Each "AI credit" = one product optimization (generating new title, description, SEO fields). Credits reset monthly based on your plan. Unused credits do not roll over.

Is my data safe?

Absolutely. We use encrypted connections, follow Shopify security guidelines, and delete all your data within 24 hours if you uninstall. See our Privacy Policy for details.

⚡ Troubleshooting

The app shows "Connection Error"

This usually means a temporary network issue between our server and Shopify's API. Try refreshing the page. If it persists, contact support.

AI preview takes too long / times out

AI generation typically takes 3-8 seconds. If it exceeds 30 seconds, there may be an issue with the AI provider. We automatically retry with a fallback model. Contact us if this happens repeatedly.

"Apply to Shopify" fails

This can happen if the product was modified by another process while you were previewing. Refresh the page, re-generate the preview, and try again.

Billing shows wrong plan

Plan changes via Shopify Billing can take up to 5 minutes to sync. If it persists longer than that, please contact us.
